Privacy and cookies

In short: this website sets no cookies, does not track you and shows no advertising. When you visit, only our host, Cloudflare, processes technical data such as your IP address (see Hosting).

Who is responsible

Gaspard Guillot, the publisher of School Shortlist. You can reach us at contact@schoolshortlist.co.uk. See also About School Shortlist.

No cookies

This website sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. The law requires a website to give you clear information and ask for your consent before it stores or reads information on your device, with a few exceptions, for example when this is strictly necessary for a service you asked for (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, Schedule A1). Because this website stores and reads nothing on your device, we do not ask for consent and you will not see a cookie banner.

No tracking and no advertising

The pages contain no software to count, follow or recognise visitors. There are no advertisements and no social media buttons. Everything you see, including the fonts and the data, comes from schoolshortlist.co.uk itself: no part of the pages is loaded from another company.

The search by postcode

When you type a postcode, your own browser finds the schools around it, using files of school positions and figures downloaded from schoolshortlist.co.uk when you first search. Your postcode is not sent to us and is not stored. It may appear in the address of the page in your browser, so that you can bookmark or share the result.

Hosting

The website is hosted by Cloudflare. On every visit, Cloudflare processes data about the traffic to the website, such as IP addresses, as described in its privacy policy. For some of this data Cloudflare acts on our behalf, as a processor; for the rest it is responsible itself. Cloudflare is an American company; its privacy policy says that when data is transferred to another country it puts in place appropriate safeguards, consistent with the laws of the country the data comes from.

If you email us

If you write to contact@schoolshortlist.co.uk, we use your email address and your message only to reply to you. We do so on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering questions about the website (UK GDPR, Article 6(1)(f)). Your email first reaches Cloudflare Email Routing, a Cloudflare service that forwards incoming email to another address; it then arrives in the publisher's mailbox at Google's Gmail. Google's privacy policy says it has servers around the world and that information may be processed outside the country where you live, with the same protections wherever it is processed. We keep your message no longer than needed to deal with your question, we use it for nothing else, and we never sell it.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to ask for access to the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing and, where it applies, to data portability. To use any of these rights, email contact@schoolshortlist.co.uk.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first at the address above. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Changes

If anything on this website changes in a way that affects your privacy, for example if advertising is added, we will update this page before the change takes effect.
